Our work is built on the partnership of two complementary disciplines. Dorothy is a professionally trained sculptor and special effects artist with a deep understanding of form, texture and the human body, while I, Kordian, bring decades of experience in fine-art photography, lighting and visual storytelling..

Together, we create luxury sculptural artwork cast directly from the body - helping people transform deeply personal moments into something physical, meaningful and lasting.

Whether it's an anniversary, a journey through illness, a celebration of connection, or simply the confidence to honour one's own body, our aim is always the same: to create artwork that preserves emotion, memory and identity in a form that can be seen, touched and passed through generations.

We built Painted By Light out of a longing to hold onto what inevitably fades. In our studio, we merged years of photography experience with the intimate art of body casting. We left behind working for others to create, with our own hands, things that will endure for generations.

We don't look for plastic, artificial perfection. We celebrate real bodies, profound connections, scars, and love. We help capture the shape of hands entwined with a loved one, the beauty of a changing body, the physical trace of presence.

Painted By Light is built on nearly 20 years of combined experience across fine art photography, visual storytelling, professional makeup artistry, and sculptural craftsmanship. Our founders bring specialist knowledge of form, anatomy, and lighting, allowing us to create bespoke artworks in a private environment that prioritises discretion and craftsmanship.
Because we offer a highly personalised experience with limited studio availability, a 20% booking fee is required to secure your session date. The remaining balance is payable on the day of your appointment by cash, bank transfer, or card.
Yes. We welcome individuals, couples, and family sessions. However, intimate body casting and fine art portraiture are available only for adults aged 18 and over. Children's casts, such as hand and foot keepsakes, are created only with a parent or legal guardian present.
Body casting is the process of creating a detailed three-dimensional impression of the human body using skin-safe moulding materials. Also known as life casting, it allows artists to preserve unique details of the human form and transform meaningful moments into bespoke fine art sculptures.
We create bespoke body casting artworks including pregnancy casting, maternity keepsakes, hand casting, couples casts, and memorial keepsakes. Each sculpture is individually crafted to preserve personal stories, connections, and milestones.
The casting session usually takes around 30–40 minutes. During this time, you will hold your chosen position for approximately 10–15 minutes while the alginate creates the impression. The process is calm and carefully guided by our artisan team.
No. The alginate feels cool and gentle when applied to the skin. During the plaster stage, you may notice a natural warming sensation as the material sets. Removing the finished mould can occasionally affect small areas of body hair, which is why we recommend trimming areas with denser hair beforehand.
We recommend drinking plenty of water in the days before your session and keeping the skin in the casting area well moisturised. Wear loose, comfortable clothing that you do not mind getting slightly marked.
We use high-quality, skin-safe specialist casting materials selected for their ability to capture exceptional detail, including natural contours, fingerprints, and subtle surface textures. Before each session, we discuss any sensitivities to ensure the process is completely safe and comfortable for you.
Each sculpture is individually hand-finished, dried, and prepared with your chosen surface treatment. The process usually takes around 4 weeks from casting to completion. Finished pieces are collected personally from our studio rather than sent by courier.
We celebrate the human form in all its authentic variations. You are welcome to wear elegant lingerie, draped fabrics, or choose tasteful nude portraiture. The entire session is dictated by your absolute comfort and personal boundaries, which we discuss in detail during your initial consultation.
Absolutely. You do not need any prior experience. With decades of fine-art photography and visual storytelling expertise, we guide you through every pose and lighting setup. The environment in our Raunds studio is calm, unhurried, and deeply supportive.
Our philosophy is "Beauty without the illusion." We focus on exquisite lighting, shadow, and composition rather than artificial perfection or digital manipulation. We do provide natural, subtle retouching of minor imperfections upon request, but we will never alter your fundamental body shape.
Following your session, the careful process of artistic refinement and colour grading begins. Your beautifully finished photographs will be ready for you to view within 1 to 2 weeks.
All finished fine-art portraits are delivered in a high-resolution digital format. However, for clients wishing to physicalise their artwork, we offer bespoke, museum-quality printing upon request. Using Epson Digigraphie technology and exquisite fine-art papers, such as Hahnemühle, we can create stunning, tactile pieces up to A0 size.
Your privacy is our absolute priority. Depending on the experience tier you choose — ranging from entirely private collections to collaborative artistic agreements — you maintain full control over your images. For our fully private tier, your artwork remains strictly confidential and is created exclusively for you.
