Returning to work after years of raising a family felt like stepping into a completely different world. For me, it became the beginning of something I had never expected.
After spending years focused on my family, returning to professional life wasn't simply about finding a job again. Life had changed. Priorities had changed. And so had I. Relocating to a new town meant starting without the professional network and familiar connections I once relied on. There was an obvious temptation to simply find a way back into the life I had left behind.
But I began to see another possibility. What if starting again didn't mean going back? What if it meant finally creating something entirely my own?
From Starting Over to Starting Something New
Instead of trying to fit myself back into someone else's path, I decided to build my own. That decision became the foundation of Painted by Light — a private artistic studio bringing together fine art photography and sculptural body casting.
What started as a new professional direction became something much more personal: a business built around creativity, craftsmanship, and the belief that people deserve to see themselves differently. Not as perfect. Not as younger. Not as someone they are expected to become. But exactly as they are today.
A Different Definition of Success
For me, success isn't simply about building a business. It's about proving to myself that a new chapter can begin at any stage of life. It’s the realization that years spent raising children don't have to mean putting your own ambitions away forever. Starting again can sometimes give you something that staying on the familiar path never could: the freedom to choose what comes next.
This is particularly important for women who have spent much of their lives looking after everyone else. There comes a moment when you realize: “I have spent enough time putting myself last.” And perhaps that's not selfish. Perhaps that's simply another form of growing.
Why We Believe in Creating Something That Lasts
My personal journey is the heartbeat of Painted by Light, shaping the work we now create for every client. We don't believe a woman's value is defined by looking younger, thinner, or more perfect. We believe there is incredible power in being seen exactly as you are, right now.
Bodies change. Relationships evolve. Families grow, and life moves forward. Often, we don't realize how important a particular moment was until years later. That's why our work is about more than just photographs or sculptures. It's about creating something tangible that says: I was here. This was my life. And I didn't wait for the perfect moment to celebrate it.
